Perry taste test

Today Dogblog is testing two high power perry brands. We have my sister's favourite, Brothers Festival (7%) versus Westons (7.4%). First, dictionary time. What is Perry? A drink like cider, made from juice of pears, fermented. What is Cider? A fermented (or unfermented in America?) drink made from apple juice. So what is "Pear Cider"? It's a made up phrase meaning "perry" because the marketing people assume you are stupid and didn't know that perry has been around for years (17th century) and has its own name. I suppose it would actually mean fermented apple juice made from pears. Which it isn't. Then again, some internet research indicates that real perry is a geographically protected name (but they normally carry a logo?) and as Brothers comes from Somerset, the dirty pear cider makers might not be able to call it real perry. Anyway, round one goes to Westons. It's from a perry county and made from a proper recipe of perry pears. Is Brothers? Don't know but it doesn't say perry on the bottle.... Oh and it's weaker than the Westons. So two nil.
